FAQHow big are classes at Eton?On average there are about 15 to 25 students per class depending on the program. Smaller class sizes mean students still enjoy the interaction with one another but benefit from more personalized attention and support from Instructors. What kind of help is there if I am have a hard time in school?Students who need extra help have easy and quick access to instructors who are able to provide extra assistance. There is also an Academic Support person who can offer one-on-one tutoring. For any personal issues, a full-time certified Counsellor in the person of the Student Services Coordinator is also available to provide on-going support and guidance. Will there be lots of homework?Homework is an important part of your learning at the college and time needs to be set aside within your daily lives. The amount of homework varies with each program and each course. Can I still work part-time once I’m enrolled at Eton?Yes, we do have students who work part-time while enrolled at Eton. We encourage students to keep in mind the course load and their own ability to juggle different priorities when deciding to work part-time as this may become a challenge. On the other hand, students who have good organizational and time management skills, have excelled both at school and work. Working while studying may even prove to be beneficial for some. Your work and life experience can be used to your advantage to further your learning at school. Where will I do my practicum?A practicum, or unpaid work experience, is a mandatory component of our core programs and is a requirement for graduation from these programs except for the Flight Attendant Preparation Program. It offers excellent opportunities for you to build on your knowledge base as well as enhance core skills in a real work setting. It provides a platform for you to practice previously learned skills under the direct supervision of a qualified professional in an area of industry where your learning is focused. It is not uncommon for qualified students to be hired by companies where they have done their work experience. Practicum provides you a chance to shine and demonstrate your skills and abilities to an industry professional and thus carries weight in your resume. Towards the end of your program, the Student Services Coordinator will work with you to coordinate a suitable practicum placement once it is established that you meet all requirements for placement including a pass grade in all courses and full payment of tuition fees. While no effort will be spared to provide you the best possible work experience at a site of your choice, there is little guarantee that a perfect match will happen all the time as placement is entirely dependent on industry availability. However, it is important to note that all Practicum sites are diligently selected based on their professional standards and ability to offer our students the best practical experience and exposure for future success. A PCTIA accreditation means that Eton College has the capability, including management of quality, to deliver programs based on established standards, standards which are recognized both by government and industry. What is the graduation rate?Eton’s graduation rate is in line with the industry’s at an average of 90%. This means a high percentage of our students actually complete their program. How many graduates get jobs? Those who are ready, willing and able to enter the workplace after school are assisted by the Student Services Coordinator in finding job opportunities. This service of career support and assistance is a lifetime commitment of the College to all graduates. All graduates of Eton College stand an equal chance with employment as their counterparts from other institutions offering the same programs. Success at employment depends on individual merits of the candidates such as their personal suitability for a position (attitude, personality, special talents) and previous work experience. In our experience, many of our students have landed in various employment situations that may or may not be directly related to their training. Individuals make independent career choices based on personal preference and prevailing life situations. Some of our graduates have actually moved on to higher education, taking the credits they have earned at Eton to local public universities such as Royal Roads University in Victoria, Capilano University in North Vancouver and other institutions. We've also had graduates who had gone through their education at Eton purely for the love of learning while some others have chosen not to seek immediate employment for various personal reasons such as travel. How soon should I apply? What’s the application deadline?Ideally you should apply as soon as you have completed these basic steps: identifying your personal goals and career objectives, learning more about the industry you want to join, researching on schools and programs, going for an interview and determining how you will finance your education. Apply as early as possible to ensure you get into the program, the start date and the start time you want. Some students apply as early as six months prior to the program start date. There is no set deadline for application but once the class fills up, then you have no choice but to wait for the next start date which may be as long as nine months later. |
