Practicum (Unpaid Work Experience)

Practicum or unpaid work experience is a valuable part of the learning at Eton College. The college is pleased to offer students an exciting and extensive selection of practicum opportunities at various reputable Canadian businesses in British Columbia.

What is a Practicum?

Practicum is the work experience component of a program. Most programs at Eton College include a mandatory Practicum component as a requirement for graduation

Purpose of Practicum

Through the Practicum program, our students are able to connect with various employers in different industries such as Tourism and Hospitality and develop “real world” practical skills that complement their classroom learning at the college. These experiences can also sometime lead to career opportunities with these employers for students that meet their employment criteria.

A practicum can be a fun learning experience where students gain more than just practical skills. Real life experience in a real work setting, sharpened communication and organizational skills, increase in self-confidence and personal growth, networking opportunities and professional connections are just some of the rewards of this enriching experience.

Who coordinates the Practicum?

The Student Services Coordinator will coordinate Practicum placements for students who qualify and meet practicum requirements. These requirements are an important part of the learning at Eton and are according to the expectations of employers who provide this privilege to students. Students will be coached throughout their education at Eton College to prepare for this exciting part of their education at Eton College. Students will not have to source for their own placements.

Where are the Practicum Placements?

Eton College has developed and continues to develop strong partnerships with reputable employers across the industries that recognize the high quality of education at Eton College. These partners offer excellent learning opportunities for our students for Practicum or Volunteer work.

When you qualify for Practicum, you may be placed with any one of our many reputable industry leading practicum partners based on your choice of program, your personal suitability as determined by the partner and college and availability of placement slots Some of these placements  will be at hotels, resort, convention centres, tourism offices, airlines, airport, transportation services, travel agencies and a variety of other exciting and fun learning environments.
