PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
This program prepares you to build collaborative relationships with clients and members of the oral health care team while delivering high-quality, client-centred care. It equips you to become a versatile and ethically responsible professional in dental office assistance. Gain hands-on expertise with the latest dental office software to manage appointments, process insurance claims, and support smooth office operations. The Dental Office Assistant program provides essential skills for efficient dental practice management, covering key areas such as dental terminology, daily office procedures, banking and billing, professional communication, and sterilization techniques.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
Upon successful completion of this program, the student will have reliably demonstrated the ability to:
- Interpret and apply dental terminology accurately in written and verbal communication to ensure clear and professional interactions with clients and colleagues.
- Utilize dental office software effectively for scheduling appointments, processing billing and insurance claims, and maintaining accurate patient records.
- Implement best practices in client interactions by responding to inquiries, managing patient concerns, and fostering a welcoming environment.
- Review, update, and manage patient records to identify errors in billing or scheduling and resolve discrepancies promptly.
- Plan and execute daily administrative tasks such as appointment scheduling, inventory management, and file organization to optimize office workflows.
- Analyze patient feedback and office performance metrics to propose improvements in administrative processes and enhance overall client satisfaction.
- Develop and maintain a system to track office supplies and inventory, ensuring materials are available, ordered timely, and documented accurately.
- Create a career advancement plan, including professional networking strategies, during field placement to establish industry connections and future opportunities.
- Demonstrate adherence to microbiology and infection control protocols to maintain a safe and compliant work environment in a dental office.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
To be eligible for admission, applicants must meet the following criteria:
1. Basic Admission Requirements
- High School Completion: Applicants must have a high school diploma or an equivalent qualification.
- Age Requirement: Minimum 19 years of age.
- Mature Student Status*: Applicants who have not completed high school and are at least 19 years of age may apply as a mature student.
*Mature student status may be granted to applicants who are over 19 years old and have not completed high school or equivalent.
Applicants will be considered for admission based on the skills and experience they have acquired since leaving school.
The applicant is required to provide the most recent transcripts or proof of academic accomplishments, a resume or summary
of professional accomplishments, and two professional letters of recommendation. The applicant may be interviewed by the
Registrar’s or Academic office to further assess their suitability for admission to the program of study.
2. English Language Proficiency
Applicants must meet one of the following:
- Minimum scores from accepted English tests (e.g., IELTS 5.5, TOEFL iBT 46, Duolingo 95, etc.).
- Recent English proficiency test (within 2 years).
- Proof of English-language education:
- 2–3 years of secondary or post-secondary education completed in English in eligible countries.
- International credentials must be recognized by WES, ICES, or IQAS.
