PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
The course introduces the basic concepts and core topics in the study of the origins and variations in human behaviour. Students will be introduced to sense and perception, consciousness, memory, learning, language and thought, and psychological disorders. Students will also be introduced to psychological assessment and therapeutic practice.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Demonstrate an understanding of basic psychological terminology and concepts and theories.
- Identify and describe important historical developments in psychology.
- Critically analyze information about human behavior and distinguish between conclusions supported by scientific evidence.
- Demonstrate applied psychology analysis and evaluative skills.
- Describe the structure and function of the various components and regions of the human brain.
- Describe the structure and function of the various human sensory systems.
- Identify and describe the different types of learning, behaviour and conditioning.
- Identify and describe the different levels of consciousness, perception and sensation.
- Describe the stages of human development.
- Explain the process of language development and the role of language in understanding the world around us.
- Discuss the role of culture and society on our understanding of human psychology.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
To be eligible for admission, applicants must meet the following criteria:
1. Basic Admission Requirements
- High School Completion: Applicants must have a high school diploma or an equivalent qualification.
- Age Requirement: Minimum 19 years of age.
- Mature Student Status*: Applicants who have not completed high school and are at least 19 years of age may apply as a mature student.
*Mature student status may be granted to applicants who are over 19 years old and have not completed high school or equivalent.
Applicants will be considered for admission based on the skills and experience they have acquired since leaving school.
The applicant is required to provide the most recent transcripts or proof of academic accomplishments, a resume or summary
of professional accomplishments, and two professional letters of recommendation. The applicant may be interviewed by the
Registrar’s or Academic office to further assess their suitability for admission to the program of study.

PTIRU Recertification Status:
Eton College submitted its recertification application before the certificate expiry date. As confirmed by PTIRU, the institution remains certified while the recertification application is under review. A PTIRU validation letter dated March 27, 2026 is available upon request.
